Before arriving in this ATP 250 event, the American had only once made it as far as the semi-finals at tour level. To advance to the championship match, Kovacevic shocked top seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets.

Auger-Aliassime, a six-time tour champion, earned his most recent piece of silverware in Adelaide. With five of his titles coming on indoor surfaces, the former world number 10 is the clear favourite to triumph here.

The 24-year-old has been in terrific form this week and has secured his three wins without losing a set. Auger-Aliassime defeated Jesper de Jong by the loss of 10 games in the semi-finals.
