Alejandro Tabilo continued his excellent form on Tuesday with a win over Karen Khachanov. The 29th seed now faces unseeded Zhihzen Zhang in the quarter-final of this outdoor clay court Masters tournament. The winner will face either third seed Alexander Zverev or 11th seeded Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals. Tabilo beat Novak Djokovic on Sunday and two days later beat another seed in straight sets. It was a tough match against Khachanov though with both sets being won via a tie-break. He’s up to 28th in the live rankings and a win over Zhang will see him rise a further three places. Tabilo is even higher in the Live ATP Race and is now in 16th position. That's because he's won two tournaments this year (one on clay) and also reached the final in the Santiago clay court tournament. With a semi-final in Bucharest, a win here will see him making his fifth last-four appearance of the year.

Zhihzen Zhang beat qualifier Thiago Monteiro to reach this quarter-final. He'd already beaten the 19th seed Adrian Mannarino and 12th seeded Ben Shelton during this impressive run in Rome. At the start of this tournament, the Chinese player was the world number 56. Reaching a Masters quarter-final has taken him up to a new career-high of 42nd. He's also up to 50th in the Live ATP Race having being 99th when this Italian Open got underway. Zhang is in his third ATP Tour quarter-final of the year. The other two were both on hard courts and played in January and February. Tabilo is in excellent form and he can make it into the last four.
