It's already been a good year for sixth seed Alejandro Tabilo. He returns to South America for the Cordoba Open and takes on wild card Francisco Comesana in the first round of this outdoor clay court event. The winner will face either a qualifier or Facundo Diaz Acosta in round two. The Chilean is up to 54th in the live rankings but tenth in the Live ATP Race. That's down to the fact he won the hard court tournament held in Auckland this year. 2024 began with him ranked 82nd and got to a career high 49th after winning that tournament. He lost in the first round of the Australian Open but took Aleksandar Kovacevic to five sets. He now begins his clay court campaign and was a losing finalist in this tournament in 2022. Last year saw him win four Challenger Tour events, three of them on clay. He's had one previous match against Comesana and won that on clay last year.

Francisco Comesana received a wild card to play in this tournament. This is the best surface for the Argentinian and he won two clay court tournaments last year but on the Challenger Tour. He's ranked 120th in the live rankings A win here can take him above his career high of 117th that he was at last October. It's not been the best of starts to the new year for him. Two tournaments in Australia saw him win one match and fail to qualify for the main draw in Brisbane and the Australian Open.
