Alejandro Tabilo has had a great run in the Italian Open and is in his Masters semi-final. The 29th seed takes on Alexander Zverev who is seeded third for this outdoor clay court tournament. Tabilo has had a hugely impressive year to date. His run of success began with a hard court title being won in Auckland. His impressive set of results has continued on clay with the final reached in Santiago and a last four appearance in Bucharest. His second title of the year came on the Challenger Tour in his most recent tournament and his second title of the year, this time on clay. This is his debut in the Italian Open and he's yet to drop a set in his four matches played so far. He's beaten two seeds with Novak Djokovic and Karen Khachanov both being beaten by him. In round four, he defeated unseeded Zhizhen Zhang for the loss of seven games. He's up to 25th in the live rankings and 12th in the ATP Race.

Now he faces Alexander Zverev for a place in the final. The German has far more experience of this tournament and is the highest remaining seed. He won this tournament in 2017 and reached the final the following year. Another semi-final was reached in 2022. and if winning the title he will move up to fourth in the rankings. In the Live ATP Race, the 27-year-old is in third place with only Sinner and Medvedev above him. This is his fourth ATP singles semi-final of the year but his first on clay. His first two matches in this tournament were both against unseeded players and won in straight sets. The fourth round saw him face in-form 11th seed Taylor Fritz and again he won in straight sets.
