It's been a big week already for the unseeded Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina. He's beaten Novak Djokovic and now takes on tenth seeded Taylor Fritz for a place in the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters. The winner of this quarter final will face either 11th seeded Hubert Hurkacz or the unseeded Grigor Dimitrov. Fokina began this week ranked 46th in the world but can move to 32nd if winning this match and that would equal his career high ranking. The Spaniard made a poor start to the new year with just one win in his first five matches. He found some form in Doha, reaching the last eight and beating Daniel Evans on the way. Since then he's struggled with his form but has made a big improvement this week. He's beaten Marcos Giron, Novak Djokovic (in three sets) and then beat David Goffin (winner in Marrakech last week) for the loss of only five games. Last year saw him show just how good he can be on clay. He reached the quarter finals here and also at Roland Garros.

Taylor Fritz had the biggest win of his career when winning Indian Wells this year. He beat a below par and injured Rafa Nadal in final of that Masters event. The world number 13 is in his first Monte Carlo quarter final and has a lot to prove on clay. Last week saw him lose in the last 16 of the clay court tournament held in Houston, losing in three sets to Cristian Garin. In Monte Carlo this week, Fritz has had wins over Lucas Catarina  (world ranked 430th) and Marin Cilic, both in three sets, He then had a hard fought 7-6 7--5 win over unseeded Sebastian Korda. He's already played three tie-breaks this week and a bet on one in this game looks a decent one to make. As for who'll win, a bet on the better player on clay is always advisable and that's Davidovich-Fokina.
