Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Albert Ramos Vinolas Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Kennedy Kechula in Tennis Predictions
For the first time in his career, Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (29th seed) prepares to serve off at the Mutua Madrid Open as a seeded player and will on Friday begin his tournament against Albert Ramos Vinolas (unseeded) in an all-Spanish affair. The second-round clash, to be played on an outdoor clay court, will be the fifth time that the two compatriots will be going up against each other and will provide the winner the chance to pull clear in the head-to-head record. Davidovich Fokina is the fifth-ranked Spaniard in the world and arrives for his fifth appearance in Madrid ranked number 36 in the live ranking. He has had an up-and-down campaign so far and has managed 14 wins from the 25 matches he has played. The 23-year-old’s highlight of the season has to be his showing at Indian Wells where he managed a quarterfinal finish which is his best-ever result at the tournament. Davidovich Fokina also recorded another personal record in the recently concluded Barcelona Open where he made it through to the last eight for the first time and will hope for at least the same in Madrid where he is yet to go past the second round.
Albert Ramos Vinolas is in his 11th edition of the Madrid Open. The veteran Spaniard has however never gone past the second round and has lost in this stage of the tournament five times. With his current form, another exit is more likely. The four-time tour champion has struggled to take hold of his season and arrives here with a losing record. He has lost 13 of the 18 matches he has played. But a positive note for him is that all five of his wins this season have come on clay. Coupling this with the fact that his two wins over Davidovich Fokina have been on clay courts (Barcelona and Estoril), he will fancy his chances of causing an upset here. His latest victory came in the first round where he came from a set down to dispatch Ilya Ivashka and in the process also end a seven-match losing streak. This however did nothing to boost his world ranking as he has dropped down to number 66 in the live rank after losing six ranking points.
