Albert Ramos-Vinolas will prepare to do battle with the formidable Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of the ATP Rome Open on Saturday morning. Ramos-Vinolas has struggled on tour this year and has seen his world ranking fall steadily from inside the top 40 at the start of the year to 72nd coming into this tournament. Following a three sets wins over wildcard Francesco Passaro in the first round, the Spaniard is now 6-15 for the year and 6-9 on the clay surface. Ramos-Vinolas' only performance of note this year came back in February in Cordoba, where he reached the semi-final but came up short against Federico Coria, losing in straight sets. Since then, it's been a series of first-round exits for Ramos-Vinolas, failing to get past the first hurdle in seven tournaments between February and now. Going up against his countryman, 

Carlos Alcaraz will return to the world number one spot at the end of this tournament. He's currently second behind Novak Djokovic but they'll swap placs after the Rome Masters. He''s also top of the Live ATP Race so will be the player to beat at Roland Garros this year. Alcaraz comes into this tournament as arguably the most in-form player, following back-to-back title runs in Barcelona and at the Madrid Masters.  The 20-year-old now holds an incredible record this year of 29-2 overall and 19-1 on the clay, along with four major titles. Only Cameron Norrie has been able to get the better of him on clay this year. Alcaraz has taken on and beaten this opponent three times in the past, all on the clay surface. The most recent encounter was at last year's Roland Garros, which ended in an incredible five set thriller. Alcaraz has vastly improved since then and can get a good win here.
