The Alaska Aces host the Meralco Bolts in this PBA Governors’ Cup matchup between two teams that have championship aspirations. The home team Aces currently sit fourth in the standings with a record of five wins and three losses and are coming off a 106-89 home loss to NLEX. They are facing off against a Meralco Bolts team that are second in the standings with a 6-1 record and are coming off a 107-95 home victory against Terrafirma. This is an important game for playoff seeding given the league’s structure of the top four seeded teams only needing to win once to advance in the first playoff round as opposed to the bottom four seeds who must win two consecutive games. With the hosts clinging to the fourth place spot ahead of the San Miguel Beermen who hold the same record, a loss could see the Aces drop out of the top four. 

Key to the Bolts success this season has been their import player Tony Bishop Jr. The 32-year-old forward is an absolute stud and is one of the league’s most dangerous scorers. Bishop is averaging 30.6 points per game, 13.9 rebounds and four assists a game on 49% shooting from the field and 44% from three. On the other side, the Aces import player Olu Ashaolu certainly contributes on the offensive end, leading the team with 18.6 points per game, but doesn’t have the same scoring potential as Bishop due to his lack of a three point shot. This is a classic matchup between one of the best defenses in the league in the Aces trying to slow down a star offensive talent and a good scoring team in the Bolts.
