Third seed Beatriz Haddad Maia faces wild card Ajla Tomljanovic for a place in the hard court Korea Open quarter-finals. It's the opening match for the seed after the Brazilian received a first round bye. Read our match prediction below.

Maia is the world number 17 in the latest rankings but seven places below that in the WTA Live Race. The 28-year-old is playing her first tournament since reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open.

That continued the good form shown on this surface when getting to the final in Cleveland in August. One other hard court semi-final has been reached with a run to the last four in Abu Dhabi seven months ago.

Eight of her last ten hard court matches have ended in victory. This is her first match against Tomljanovic and Maia will be hoping to again go deep this week. A win will see her face lucky loser Polina Kudermetova in the last eight.

Ajla Tomljanovic is 122nd in the rankings and received a wild card to play in this tournament. The first round saw the Australian beat Jang Su-jeong but had to go to a final set after dropping the middle one.

The 31-year-old had lost five of her last six matches before that win. Her best form this year has been on grass courts with one final reached. A win over Maia will see her winning two main draw hard court matches for the first time this year.
