It's not looking good for these two countries as far as their hopes of reaching the ICC World Cup knock-out stages are concerned. Afghanistan are yet to get a point on the table after three games and South Africa only have one point from an abandoned match. If the bad weather that has hit this tournament over the past week stays away, then the winner of this match will still have an outside chance of qualification. Whoever loses will be in a dire situation.
South Africa were expected to put on a good show in this tournament but have been disappointing to date. They took part in the opening match but couldn't cope with England and lost by 104 runs. The disappointment of that loss was nothing compared to that felt when losing by 21 runs to Bangladesh. Two successive defeats became three when they were defeated by India. Their most recent game saw them reduced to 29-2 by the West Indies pace attack before the rain came down and the match was abandoned. That at least got the South Africans a point that they might not otherwise have earned. Coming into this game, they need runs from du Plessis and Miller who have both played well so far and a return to form from Amla who only has 35 runs from his three innings. Afghanistan have lost their three games played so far They had a tough start against Australia losing by seven wickets and followed that up with poor performances against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Their highest score in three games has been 207 and with their bowling not looking that threatening, this can go to South Africa to breathe some life into their campaign.

Both of these countries are looking for their first win in this year's ICC World Cup. South Africa have a point so far but that only came from an abandoned match. Their batsmen have been getting in but not going on to get good scores. They have a lot more experience than their opponents whose batting has yet to fire in this tournament. Go for South Africa to get the victory with their bowling attack likely to cause Afghanistan plenty of problems.
