World number 17 Adrian Mannarino is seeded fourth in the Dallas Open. A bye was received in the first round and he now takes on unseded Yoshihito Nishioka for a place in the quarter finals. Whoever qualifies will face either fifth seed Christopher Eubanks or James Duckworth who is unseeded. Mannarino is down a place in the live rankings because he's defending the points earned for reaching the last eight of this hard court tournament last year. The French player reached the last 16 of the Australian Open last month. He beat Ben Shelton but then lost to Novak Djokovic winning just three games after losing the first two sets to love. His last match was in the Davis Cup beating Tung-Lin Wu in straight sets.

Yoshihito Nishioka was down at 83rd when this tournament began. He beat lucky loser Terence Atmane to get into the second round but had to go to a final set after dropping the middle one. That victory has taken the Japanese player to 76th in the live list. However, that's a long way below the career high of 24th that he was in last June after reaching the fourth round in both the Australian Open and at Roland Garros. He hasn't built on that though and his first round loss to Holger Rune in this year's Australian Open was the third Grand Slam in a row in which he's lost in round one. He then won two matches for Japan in the Davis Cup but against players ranked outside the top 150. To reach the last eight in Dallas, he needs to beat Mannarino for the first time.
