Unseeded Adrian Mannarino will on Saturday seek his first win against 16th seed Alexander Zverev when the two battle at the Cincinnati Masters. The winner of this quarterfinal showdown will play either second-seed Novak Djokovic or ninth-seed Taylor Fritz in the semifinals. Adrian Mannarino is through to the last eight here for the first time. His best-ever finish in this Masters tournament before this season was a third-round appearance in 2017 and 2019. The Frenchman advanced to this round rather fortuitously as his third-round battle with the wildcard Mackenzie McDonald was cut short by injury. Mannario was one set ahead before McDonald retired in the second set while down 3-0. This ensured that Mannarino was yet to drop a set after three rounds. The 35-year-old has struggled with his form and has won six more matches than the 23 he has lost. Before arriving in Ohio, he had lost twice in a row on hard court. Mannarino is up nine places to 23rd in the live ranking. He has won one title and finished as runner-up as well with both achievements coming on grass.

Alexander Zverev has won all seven encounters between him and Mannarino. With the form that he is currently on, he will be confident of coming out on top once again. He has compiled a 37-19 record with nine of those victories coming in his last 10 outings. Zverev marked a dominant clay court campaign, by winning on home soil - in Hamburg - the 20th tour title of his career. His first title of the season ended an almost two-year wait for a tour triumph. A former Cincinnati Open champion, Zverev has carried that momentum here and will be eager to challenge for the title once again. Having never gone past the second round in his first seven appearances in Ohio, the German won it all in 2021. Injuries kept him from defending his title last year. In his return, he has looked sharp and has won two of his three rounds without dropping a set. Now up to 14th in the live ranking, Zverev defeated third seed Daniil Medvedev in three sets in the last round.
