Cricket fever will return to Pakistan in April with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) confirmed to get underway on April 11. However, the schedule announced by the PCB will clash with the bigger and more widely followed Indian Premier League in neighbouring India, which runs from March 22 to May 25.

Concerns Grow Over PSL-IPL Schedule Clash

The 2023 Pakistan Super League will be the 10th edition of the tournament and will be held between April 11 and May 18, kicking off with the defending champions Islamabad United taking on two-time tournament winners Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The tournament will feature six teams and 34 matches to be played across Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore and Multan, with the Eliminators and final to be staged at the Gaddafi Stadium. There will also be an exhibition match in Peshawar on April 8.

Across the border in India, the Indian Premier League commenced on Saturday, March 22, with the final of the competition scheduled for May 20. As a result, the two competitions will overlap each other once the PSL starts next month. You can check out our IPL predictions right here on SportyTrader.

Shortly after Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament schedule was announced, PSL team owners voiced their concerns about player availability due to the clash with the IPL. Since then, tensions have continued to rise between franchise owners and the PCB due to the uncertainty over the tournament’s future and the appointment of Hijab Zahid as a senior manager in the PSL.

Zahid made history by becoming the first female general manager of the Multan Sultans back in 2023 and her appointment as a senior manager in the PSL without any public announcement being made sparked concerns over a possible conflict of interests.

Bosch Snubs PSL for Mumbai Indians IPL Call-Up

South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch was signed by Peshawar Zalmi at the Players Draft for the upcoming PSL, but last week he announced his withdrawal from the tournament owing to a call-up from the Mumbai Indians in the IPL as a replacement for countryman Lizaad Williams.

Bosch’s withdrawal has further added to PSL team owners’ frustrations around the clash between the tournaments, and the PCB has since sent a legal notice to the South African’s entourage, demanding an explanation for his decision to pull out of the competition, while a potential ban is also being considered.

On Wednesday last week, Bosch clarified his decision, explaining that his withdrawal from the PSL was purely a career-based one and emphasised that he meant no disrespect to the organisation. Bosch played for the MI Cape Town franchise that won the SA20 title earlier this year.
