IPL 2025: Orange, Purple Cap and League Standings at Halfway Point of Competition

Gujarat Titans Take the League in IPL 2025
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League has already delivered several surprises, most notably, with the usual big teams such as the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders all struggling to find top form with half the season now in the rearview mirror.
The Delhi Capitals were one of the biggest surprise packages this term, having shot out the blocks to four consecutive wins and to the top of the leaderboard over the first couple of weeks before suffering two defeats in their last three games.
DC’s most recent defeat came on Saturday afternoon, when they were beaten by seven wickets by the Gujarat Titans. The Capitals posted a very defendable target of 203/8 in their 20 overs, but the Titans stormed to victory with four balls to spare thanks to Jos Buttler’s 97* in 54 balls.
That result marked the Titans' fifth win in their last six matches and took them to the top of the table after seven games with 10 points. Indeed, five teams are currently locked level on the same points tally, but GT have the best net run rate in the competition of +0.984.

Noor Ahmad Overtaken in Purple Cap Standings

While the Chennai Super Kings have had a forgettable IPL season to this point, the one bright point of their campaign has been the performance of Noor Ahmad, who held the Purple Cap since the first week after taking 4/18 against Mumbai in the IPL’s El-Clasico.
However, the Afghanistan international only managed a single wicket in two games leading up to the midway point of the competition, which opened the door for others to close the gap in the table, and Gujarat Titans’ Prasidh Krishna grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
The Titans’ pace bowler has been in excellent form of late, notching up nine wickets in his last three outings, capped off with a stunning 4/41 against the Delhi Capitals in his last match, which took his tally in the competition to 14, two clear of the chasing pack that features four players on 12 wickets apiece.
Player | Wickets | Ovr | Runs | BBF | SR | 3w | 5w |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Prasidh Krishna (GT) | 14 | 27 | 201 | 4/41 | 11 | 2 | 0 |

Shardul Thakur (LSG) | 12 | 28 | 308 | 4/34 | 14 | 1 | 0 |
Nicholas Pooran Clings On to Orange Cap

In the leading run-scorer standings, Nicholas Pooran has been perched atop the list since week two after he produced a masterclass in power hitting, smashing 70 runs in a mere 26 deliveries against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in his second match of the season.
The West Indian wicket-keeper batsman is now on 368 runs in eight matches, including four half-centuries and a high-score of 87 not out. He also has a mind-boggling strike rate of 205, which is the highest of any player who has scored at least 150 runs this season.
However, Pooran has only managed 19 runs in his last two innings (11 & 8), which has seen his lead in the Orange Cap standings trimmed to just three runs by Titans’ batter Sai Sudharsan on 365, while Virat Kohli’s 73* against the Punjab Kings last week took him to third place with 322 runs in eight games.
Player | Runs | SR | Mat | HS | Avg | 50s | 100s |
