The 2025 Formula 1 season will kick off at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne with the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, March 16. From there, the drivers will stop off in 21 countries before the final race of the season - the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - on the weekend of December 5-7.

Major Changes for the 2025 Formula 1 Season

After 246 race starts, 84 Grand Prix wins, 12 seasons, eight Constructors’ titles, and seven Drivers Championships, all of which led to being knighted, Lewis Hamilton’s long and storied partnership with Mercedes came to an end four months ago.

The iconic British driver is now set to embark on a new journey in his already legendary career. When the lights go down on Sunday, Hamilton will be behind the wheel of Ferrari’s SF-25, having traded the famous silver car for the Scuderia Ferrari family alongside Charles Leclerc.

Which Other F1 Drivers Have Changed Teams?

Hamilton is not the only one to make a move for 2025. Esteban Ocon has swapped Alpine for Haas, while Nico Hulkenberg has made the move from Haas to Sauber, which will transition into Audi next season.

After Hamilton’s switch, Carlos Sainz Jr. found a new home at Williams. Liam Lawson, following his super-sub stint with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls in place of Daniel Ricciardo, is back for 2025 – this time as Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull.

Rule Changes For 2025 F1 Season

The FIA agreed to tighten regulation around flexible wings. Starting at the Australian Grand Prix, the minimum opening of the rear wing will now range from 9.4 to 13 millimetres. With DRS activated, the upper limit for the rear wing remains at 85 millimetres.

A point will no longer be awarded for the fastest lap in 2025!

In 2025, the cooling vest will make its debut, designed to be used when temperatures exceed 30.5 degrees Celsius. However, it won’t be mandatory to wear the vest just yet; the requirement will come into effect starting in 2026.
